Key Everyday Thought:

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.” (John 8:31).

Many Canadians have never heard a clear explanation of the gospel. A wide range of faith options are available to those seeking greater spiritual meaning in their lives. Well-meaning Christians, in a desire to connect with others, can be tempted to compromise their understanding of Scripture in order to remain approachable and open to relationships with others. While the Bible encourages us to love and help others, it upholds Christ as being the sole source of salvation and the only key to a satisfying life. It has become even more important for Christ-followers to become grounded in God’s Word while cultivating a heart of love for God and for those with whom we have regular interactions. By building a strong foundation in our own spiritual lives, we are then able to be used by God’s Spirit to help bring others to faith in Christ.

PASSAGES TO PONDER

John 14:6
“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”

1 Peter 3:15
“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.”

2 Timothy 2:15
“Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.”

Colossians 4:2-6
“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should. Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.”

1 Corinthians 9:19-22
“Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ. When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.”

Pray

Ask and it will be granted…

– That believers would continually study Christ’s teaching
– That we would remain faithful to what we have heard
– That we would explain our faith graciously
– That we would engage our culture with courage and not fear
– That God will grant us open doors to share the gospel
