Charles & Desirea Silva Sri Lanka
Our hearts are heavy in having to say goodbye to Charles' Dad as he's been with us since our arrival in Sri Lanka but we look forward to what the Lord has in store! Please see our latest updates.
What a whirlwind of a month May has been! In late April/early May a great team from Thailand, led by the amazing Peter Dewit, came to Sri Lanka with a desire to minister to the youth of this country. Charles was invited to speak in one of their Saturday sessions - how incredible it was to be able to pour into the lives of these hungry souls! The Lord has an awesome plan for these kids as He wants to incredible things through them. We’re so happy to report that the Lord has opened the door for us to get our ‘feet wet’ in teaching English! Since arriving in Sri Lanka we’ve been building a great relationship with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Sri Lanka (PAOSL) and they’ve invited us to teach English for 1 term in their River of Life Bible College - PRAISE GOD! The term commenced earlier this month and thus far we’ve taught three 2-hour sessions and the students are hungry for more! The desire of the college is to offer Bible courses fully in English as this opens up more ministry opportunities for the students and we’re absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to play a small role in that! Please keep this in prayer as we desire to build a strong English curriculum and eventually use this as a stepping stone when we start the ESL program with poor & needy children. A great tool to teach ESL is the Bible in modern English. If you have full NIV Bibles you’d like to send us we’ll gladly take them! The class has been opened to the public as a form of outreach so yet another good reason to use the Bible! We’ve also been able to acquire all of the required documents for the registration of Charles’ birth - PRAISE GOD! Please keep this in prayer as everything has now been submitted to the Citizenship Division of the Department of Immigration. Once this has been approved we’ll be that much closer to applying for dual citizenship, which will help us in registering a ministry in this country. It’ll also make it such that we will no longer require visas to enter & exit, which would be amazing! We also bid farewell to Charles’ Dad, Cyril Silva, who made the trek with us to Sri Lanka a few months back. It’s so hard to believe that his time with us has come to a close and we’re going to dearly miss him. He’s been a HUGE blessing to us in helping to get us settled here and we pray the Lord’s richest blessings over him as he goes back to settle down in Canada. We are also looking for a good language teacher that can instruct us in the Sinhala language in order for us to communicate well. In Christ’s Service - Charles, Desirea, Sarah & Judah.
Our Prayer Needs:
• PRAISE REPORT - all documents required for the registration of Charles’ birth have been acquired & submitted! Please pray for favour.
• Journeying mercies for Charles’ Dad as he goes back to Canada.
• We strongly desire to learn the Sinhala language in order to be more effective in building relationships.
• ESL classes started @ PAOSL Bible College - please pray for wisdom in building a good curriculum.
• NIV Bibles in contemporary English for the purpose of teaching ESL.
• Please pray for the Lord to lead us to a great deal on a used vehicle as taxes have increased and we’re still without a car.
