Profile

Kathy Bowler is the director of the Children of Blessing Trust, which provides services to children with disabilities and other vulnerable children in Lilongwe, Malawi. She lives in Lilongwe with her husband Steve and her two daughters Amy and Alisa. Steve works with Visionledd Canada as the regional coordinator for HIV/AIDS, Africa, helping churches build their capacity to respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

“Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these' ” (Mathew 19:14, NIV).

The purpose of the Children of Blessing Centre is to put this verse into practice and make it a reality for the children.

The Children of Blessing Centre provides children with disabilities, orphans and other vulnerable children in the north western quadrant of Lilongwe with:

· Acceptance

· Love

· Encouragement

· Hope for a future

· Protection and safety

· Rehabilitation services

· Access to primary school education

· Access to preschool education

· Remedial assistance to learn how to read

· Access to screening programmes

· Access to nutrition support

· Access to ART, surgery, epilepsy clinic

In addition, we work to sensitize the community about the rights of children with disabilities and other vulnerable children in order to help them integrate into society.

These services are provided in a centre which focuses on the holistic needs of children.

Children of Blessing Centre provides these children with access to the services they require. It also provides education and training to parents, guardians, Traditional leaders, pastors, and other stakeholders already involved in the community.

These are the long term goals and much is needed before the full vision will be realized. This is up to God and His people. From March 1, 2008, the ministry operates out of a three-bedroom house, purchased in Area 25 as the first centre of operations until centres are constructed.
